Striped Swallow Designs recently released their new At First Glance top.

I had the pleasure of testing this design, so I got to sew it up before it was released.

When I first saw the photos I immediately fell in love with this pattern. It comes with two sleeve options: short sleeve (dolman style) or flounce sleeves.

The pattern includes layers, so you can print only the sizes that you need. This is so convenient, especially for those of us that need to grade between sizes.

When going through my stash of fabric I found this GORGEOUS floral french terry. I believe I got it from Sincerely Rylee Fabrics ages ago. It is perfectly soft and drapes beautifully. My daughter loves how soft it is. I didn’t use clear elastic to stabilize the waist seam, but I wish I would have. It was difficult to attach without stretching. I for one cannot wait to make another flounce version out of double brushed poly, and a matching women’s version using DBP for myself.

Did it look like the line drawings and/or photos in the pattern? There are no line drawings featured in this pattern. I personally prefer to have line drawings available but it is not a deal breaker to me.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, I for one prefer fully photographed tutorials and this was not lacking.

What is your favorite feature in this pattern? The asymmetrical hem paired with the flounce sleeves!

Is there anything that you disliked about this pattern? No, I enjoyed sewing this pattern and both my daughter and I love the final results.

Fabric Used: I used french terry from Sincerely Rylee Fabrics.

Final Conclusions: I really enjoyed this pattern. There were a few things I would do differently next time, I will finish the front skirt seam so that it doesn’t split open (just personal preference) and I will use clear elastic when attaching the skirt to avoid any stretched out seams.
