Hey friends!
Today is my stop on the Riley Blake Designs Summer Picnic Project Tour!

Summer Picnic is a brand new collection by Melissa Mortenson of Polkadot Chair. Summer Picnic is inspired by Melissa’s love of family picnics and full of things she loved most from her summer at home in 2020. (I think we can all relate to this, given our worldwide pandemic last year).

I have a thing for cherries on fabric. My love of all things vintage lends to my love of all things cherries. It just feels so retro, and I’ve always said I was born in the wrong era. So, naturally, I tend to go for a more vintage style.

Because of this love of all things vintage and cherry, I was immediately drawn to the cherry prints. When I first chose these prints I didn’t really have a pattern in mind yet, so, I figured that I’d just design something when the time came.

Fast forward to when it’s time to sew up these prints and I still didn’t have a pattern in mind. And all of the patterns I had already drafted this year just didn’t seem like the perfect fit. So, I sat down and drew up some ideas using these gorgeous prints as my inspiration. And I’ve created, in my humble opinion, the most perfect vintage-inspired pattern. Meet Bluebell.

Bluebell features three lengths, peplum top, mini dress (meant to be worn with bloomers), and knee length. Photographed is the mini length Bluebell on my 4 year old. There are optional bow details for the shoulders which can also be sewn separately as hair bows!

Bluebell features a full front button closure, though you are free to use snaps if you or your child prefers. The waistband adds a fun pop of color and separates the skirt from the bodice nicely. I chose to use the Summer Picnic Gingham in green to pair with the Summer Picnic Cherries in bleached denim. The green pairs so nicely with this print!

Although you cannot see them, I paired some sweet bloomers underneath so this rambunctious little girl can play freely in her beautiful outfit.

I always say that this print was made for this pattern, however, since this pattern was truly made FOR this print they are truly a match made in Heaven.
